The rugby of things

Ever heard of internet of things? It means the ubiquitous use of internet such as self-driving cars using online maps, self-start air cons etc etc. Don’t worry about the title it has nothing to do with this post, I just wanted to say #Rugbytingz without sounding too cliché.

Anho, rugby is slowly becoming a “common” thing for most urban and sub urban dwellers especially in Nairobi. A big thanks to old time sponsors like Tusker, Cadbury, Resolution health , Bamburi Cement among others and the newcomer ‘got money in the bank ’ Safaricom. Safaricom prides its self to be the biggest private sponsor of sports in Kenya after the GOK. I say it’s about effing time.

These sponsors have increased popularity of the sport but not the understanding, that’s why we see situation like Masaku 7s and Kabeberi 7s attracting a lot of public interest both positive and negative. I want to tackle the understanding part.

As an astute rugby fan, I must comment about the negative publicity the sport received recently during the Masaku 7s. First, rugby is not a church event, shit is bound to happen. It’s all about grown men/women drinking beer, acting badly, heckling big booty girls and singing lewd songs like “she got the whole world in her a** “all day long in no particular order plus the game for those who care.

Due to this Last year I did a post outlining the [Do’s and don’ts at a rugby game] that hit the internet with a boom. It’s a good place to start for newbies. However I missed a few points that I would like to state below.

Don’ts

  1. Ladies if you don’t understand the game, ask, guys don’t mind explaining it but limit the question to not more than 3 per game.
  2. Ladies if you don’t have beautiful legs – by now you should know- please don’t wear short shorts that’s a reserve for the Tusker and promotions girls
  • Ladies don’t ask a rugby fan to escort you to the village or anywhere else for that matter when a game is on.
  1. Guys if you can’t handle your alcohol (wasee wa Bluemoon na zinginezo) please buy milk or soup, no one likes seeing what you ate yesterday.
  2. Do not sneer at people signing the lewd songs, it’s rude and no one cares if you are offended.

Dos

  1. Have fun and don’t give any Fs

That’s enough for this year and yes, there is only one do ;).

We are half way through the Safaricom 7s series, having done Machakos, Meru, Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa and we are headed to Nakuru, Nairobi and finally Kasarani on 21st Sept. The upcoming series are my personal favourites. See their schedule [here] then tukutane huko.

That’s all folks, If I may have missed something crucial please leave a comment below.

Tunasija!!
