Karaoke is one of the most popular forms of entertainment in night clubs today where the revelers choose a song from a list of well-known hits and sing their hearts out. Most people love Karaoke nights in their respective hangout places but do you know its origins? The word Karaoke originates from two Japanese words “Kara” which means empty and “okesutora” which means orchestra. It was developed out of the Japanese practice of Japanese providing some form of entertainment for guests at dinner parties. This was in the 1970’s and it was later picked up by the western countries in the 1990’s.
Karaoke has picked up pace in the country and people are always packing the clubs during the respective karaoke nights and a lot of awful singing fills the clubs. The best thing about karaoke is that it gives normal people an opportunity to shine on the stage that they will probably never get a chance to in their lifetime. When one is up on stage, there is a feeling one gets that makes you think your singing is as great as that of the artist your singing about and all else is forgotten. Though for most people, being intoxicated is the motivation that gets them in that position in the first place and keeps them going even though they can hear loud and clear that they are doing severe injustice to the actual artist of the song they are singing and would even be turning in their grave to the sounds being produced.
It’s not an easy feat to go up on stage and sing in front of all those strangers in the club as our low confidence shoots us down instantly and so it is best to leave it to those who know how to sing when they have taken a bottle or three.
