After the launch of Madaraka express earlier in June, I have seen number of guys suggest it now possible to party in Mombasa overnight and be in Nairobi the next day,for sure the ticket prices is in favour of Kenyans, according to several comments.
Its possible theoretically
As for many, suggestions that its possible to go party in Mombasa and come back the next day, looks possible given that it now take just 4 hour 30 minutes, compared to the previous road transport means. Theoretically it is possible to party at the coast and come back the next day without any major disruption as we can already see happening .Previously if you had to attend an event at the coast from Nairobi or vice versa, you had to travel one day prior to the event and come back the day after Atleast a 3 day trip. Now you can travel on the events day, attend the events in the evening and depart the following day however you still have to spend at most 2 days the departure and return day as there is just one train service per day, that’s from Nairobi to Mombasa and vice versa, which depart both cities at 9 am and arrive at 1330 hrs.
We needs at least two departure schedule
Nevertheless the SGR has opened up the two cities and now Nairobian have something new to do apart from hangout in overpriced city bars but for Kenyans to be able to traverse through the two cities like they do from Ngong road to Naivasha on a Friday evening. Until Kenya Railways establishes multiple trains departing in hour’s interval it wont be as smooth as we seem to suggest, to attend events in Mombasa and come back the same day or within 24 hrs especially for the working class.
