The following event happened on the 30th October 2015. I was busy lazing around reading Kenyan jokes about Halloween on twitter. One of the funniest and probably one you’ve already seen goes like “Halloween ndio nini………Mimi ile kitu naweza Ogopa 31st Ni Landlord tu” and therein lies some truth. Then I received a call from the good guys from Africa Spirits Limited – these are the guy who Manufacture Blue Moon Premium Vodka (Yes that’s how it’s written) and the famous Legend Brandy among several other brands. The guy on the other side (Steve, Blue Moon premium vodka brand manager :)) wanted us to cover an event they had at Club Fahrenheit Emabaksi. A mini Bar launch, Blue Moon premium Vodka (I promise this is the last time) had agreed with the club management to Build their own branded bar inside the club as a way of thanking the club and their loyal fans in the area. And Build they did, The BlueMoon bar.
I gave call to Vinnie the Photographer and luckily he had no engagement that night and the fact that he might have some free sample while at it easily sold it. So into traffic we headed from Ngong rd. to Uhuru highway to Mombasa rd and 3 hours later at around 7:45 we are at outside Club Fahrenheit- (seriously someone should do smoothing about this traffic menace). We get into the club where we find the set up being finalised, there is a sampling place near the entrance, the light are blue, beautiful waitresses in blue dresses. The set up looks superb. However there are only a couple of guys inside even after accounting for the staff. I head over to Steve and ask what where are the people, he smiles and responds “Huku ni Eastlands” Meaning people get into the clubs at 11pm. Whaaat! That the time I usually leave.
The BlueMoon Bar.
Steve briefs us on why they decided to invest in building their own branded bar at the area and Vinnie jumps right into snapping action.
True to it, at around 10:30 group after group of revellers start streaming slowly into the club, the DJ is still playing the warm up music, you know the 90’s R&B mixed with 00,s Hip hop. By the 11:30 the place is packed the sampling booze is over and I think Vinnie is a little tipsy. We make a one final round the club to see how the fans are enjoying themselves, it’s a massive place with upstairs and ground floor spanning around a 20m Hall way. Almost everyone has a Mzinga of Blue moon premium Vodka. Surely, this is Blue Moon territory.
Resident Dj Teargas step into the deck put on some Reggae and the club erupts. The night ON.
