Several events went down the past weekend but we decided not to bore you with every single event. So we chose the top three which are below:-
Driftwood 7s 2013
Half of the Safaricom 7s series tournaments have already been played and this past weekend was the coastal edition known as Driftwood 7s. This was laced with some controversy on Thursday 22nd when it got cancelled due to a breach in the existing sponsorship agreement between the Kenya Rugby Union and EABL. Both the teams and fans decided to head on to Mombasa either way and the sponsors agreed to solve their issues at a later date and the tournament went on as scheduled. The games were tense but KCB emerged as the winners of the Driftwood title with two tries beating Kenya Harlequins 12-5.
BarCamp Nairobi 2013
BarCamp is an international network of user-generated un-conferences primarily focused around technology and the Web and is an open, participatory workshop-event of which the content is provided by participants. The BarCamp Nairobi 2013 edition happened on Saturday at the Nailab and IHub which brought together techies and entrepreneurs to discuss the big question; where tech in Kenya will be in the next 50 years. Lots of controversial topics were discussed and great perspectives & solutions were brought forward. It was a great event for techies nonetheless as they wait anxiously for 2014 edition which might be in four different towns.
The Sunday of 25th was the debut of Kids Paradise which was one of the great places to take the kids before the school holiday came to an end. It included Alvin and the chipmunk live mascots and other costumed cartoon characters. The kids’ creativity was also invoked through the creative play activities that had been arranged for them and professional photography in amazing photo stands. It was quite a lot of fun and was a great way to spend your Sunday afternoon.
